About

Mango Tree Docs is led by Matt Cusimano, a trained and seasoned documentary filmmaker based in New York City. He began his career as a narrative directing student at Columbia College Chicago, and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2010, having trained in sister programs in Los Angeles and Italy.

He then spent two years in the independent film and theatre community in Chicago, famous for small theatre, comedy, and avant-garde mixed media. He trained as an event filmmaker, contract writer, and visual artist with many theatre credits.

In 2012 Matt was a community organizer with Peace Corps Guyana - in addition to his primary assignment of community health and literacy, he contributed to over a dozen media projects with various NGOs, UNICEF, the US State Department, and other partners that recognized Matt’s value to the community. He ended his full term as a Peace Corps Volunteer with a library project built from the grassroots to final completion, leaving the community with complete autonomy over their desired literacy initiative.

In 2014 Matt joined NYU’s program in Culture & Media, immersed in an environment of like-minded do-gooders: human right’s lawyers, anthropologists, media makers, and fellow artists. His thesis, “The Love Industry” premiered at the Margaret Mead Film Festival in October, 2016.

In 2016 Matt created “Mango Tree Documentary” as a one-stop-shop for nonprofits looking to amplify a message. Mango Tree has worked with dozens of nonprofits, for-profits, and event-based companies to create an exciting and engaging product that both emphasizes audience engagement as well as addresses broader cultural impact. With Mango Tree, we have the experience, empathy, and nuance that addresses business-needs but also is sensitive to local community impact.
